Propaedeutic Program

For more than four years, we have been carrying tou the Propaedeutic program with Universidad Catolica del Norte (UCN), which focuses on senior students from Maria Elena, Tocopilla and Antofagasta, as a first approach to university. The group of selected students would start preparing on May or June during Saturdays, according to the institutional calendar, in the modules of language leveling, mathematics and personal and parental development. 

Achievements:

  • In 2023, more than 120 students graduated from UCN’s Propaedeutic 2023 program.
  • The beneficiaries were 20 students from La Sagrada Familia School located in Tocopilla, as well as 20 students from the Technical Professional Scientific and Humanistic educational establishment in Maria Elena, and 10 students from the “Mejor Niñez” program.

Energy House

This project is part of the Suma + Energy Program, which is promoted by CORFO Antofagasta, and it focuses on raising awareness and educate the community in the use of non-conventional renewable energies (NCRE). It also seek to contribute to the development of the residential energy market, fostering greater energy awareness in the community and encouraging the formation of human capital. 

Achievements:

  • Scheduled talks and guided tours. 
  • Workshops imparted at the Energy House to boost self-cultivation, self-consumption and healthy diets.

Be Green Festival 2023 in Benefit of Native Fauna and Biodiversity

This festival was held to build a space for dialogue and education about fauna and biodiversity. It was organized by the Geniale Group and also had our support and collaboration.

Achievements:

  • A seminar on preservation of native fauna and biodiversity was held in November 2023. 
  • Development of a creative workshop, aimed mainly at schoolchildren from 1st to 8th grade.
  • Outings for wildlife observation, where schoolchildren were able to learn about different species. 

Entrepreneurial Activity in the Antofagasta Region

We took part on a new version of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, developed by the Center for Entrepreneurship and SMEs, CEMP of the Faculty of Economics and Administration of Universidad Catolica del Norte (UCN). CEMP implemented a study to understand the perceptions and conditions that impact entrepreneurship, with the purpose of promoting entrepreneurship development at UCN and within the Antofagasta Region.

Among the data provided by this report, it is worth noting that

  • The entrepreneurial activity rate in the early stages reached 26,4% in 2022 and the rate of new entrepreneurs increased from 6,9% to 8,5%.
  • The rate of entrepreneurs with more than three and a half years of activity has grown significantly from 3.8% in 2021 to 8.1% in 2022 and exceeds the pre-pandemic rate of 7.5%. 
  • Early-stage women entrepreneurs activity decreased slightly, from 27.1% in 2021 to 26.3% in 2022, while the rate of established women entrepreneurs has seen a significant rise from 2.3% to 5.6%. 
  • There is also a similar evolution among men, with their early-stage activity dropping from 30.1% to 26,5%, while among established entrepreneurs it increases from 5,8% to 10.2%

ProGreso:

In 2023, and for three days, students, professionals, academics and researchers from the Northern Macrozone participated in a meeting organized by students of Civil Industrial Engineering from Universidad Catolica del Norte (UCN), with the support of SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition. This meeting addressed a complete analysis of the industry 4.0, in order to provide knowledge and tools on new technologies and innovations for companies located in the region. 

AntofaEduca

This initiative was funded by the Regional Government (GORE) of Antofagasta (2023 – 2024) and SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition is funding the activities that complement the educational plan. The Entrepreneur Foundation is the main responsible entity for the execution of the project, which is also considering the active participation of a group of local educational leaders, the Applied Sciences of Tampere University – TAMK (Finland), Universidad Catolica del Norte (UCN), Universidad de Antofagasta (UA), Universidad Santo Tomas (UST), the Center for Educational Transformation CENTRE of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (PUC), the educational innovation laboratory of Fab Lab Atacama and the Antofagasta Alliance.

Achievements:

  • Training teachers and principals from 20 municipal schools belonging to the nine municipalities of the region.
  • Classes were imparted in the classroom as well as in distance learning modules from Finland. They were imparted by educational experts. 

XII International Conference TEA 2023

The XII International Conference TEA 2023 “Education, Context and Much More” was held with the purpose of raise awareness and exchange learning methods about autism, providing tools for inclusion, an initiative carried out by Fundacion Teautismo with the support of SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition.

Achievements:

  • More than 100 people attended the conference.

Educational Challenge 2023 Project

Together with Fundacion Iguales in the Antofagasta Region, two territorial deployments were carried out in the last months of 2023, in order to promote respect and awareness in regards to the recognition of diversity inside the different territories.

Achievements:

  • Training in gender and diversity for more than 620 people, including teachers, students, officials from the Mejor Ninez organization, and civil society organizations. 
  • Workshops with Sernameg Antofagasta and Prodemu.
  • Training for employees of Industrial High School in Antofagasta and Diego Portales High School, imparting talks on gender and diversity at Universidad de Antofagasta. 
  • Training and sensitization day in order to incorporate techniques aimed at the recognition of diversities in different territories.

Support for the Budeo Bodyboard Club in Antofagasta

In 2023, the 11th version of the Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival competition was held, with the participation of international athletes from more than 15 countries. The activity was held during May and counted with the participation of the best exponents in different categories. 

The Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival is one of the most important international events in Northern Chile, which is positioned as one of the most anticipated of the world tour, by the number of participating categories, as well as having more than 10 years of history.
