“Nothing Stops Us” Championship

We developed this initiative driven by G100, a non-profit corporation for the development of ventures in the regions of Tarapacá and Antofagasta. One of its main objectives is to promote and dynamize the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Chile, through an entrepreneurship tournament at the communal and regional level.

Sustainable DNA Program

Entrepreneurs from Antofagasta, Tocopilla, Iquique, Alto Hospicio, Pica, and La Huayca participated in the launch of Sustainable DNA, a program by El Puerto Cowork, SQM Yodo Nutrición Vegetal, and Factor de Cambio Foundation, which continues the work done by the finalists of the Sustainability Challenges, with workshops and advice provided by experts in entrepreneurship, environment, and circular economy topics.

Achievements:

  • Workshops by Pamela Castro from Modulab, and Humberto Salinas, from Desafío Circular, who enhanced concepts related to innovation and sustainability from a more friendly perspective.
  • Active participation of entrepreneurs in recreational and playful activities.

Shared Views

For the past 5 years, alongside Fundación Miradas Compartidas, which works for the social and labor integration of people with intellectual disabilities, volunteers from SQM Yodo Nutrición Vegetal have been part of a beautiful inclusion work.

Achievements:

  • More than 300 people from all localities have been part of the foundation and have participated in disciplines such as soccer, theater, and motor skills to contribute to social integration.
  • We organized the first Inclusive Olympiad in Antofagasta, which aimed to promote diversity and inclusion through sports activities.

Learn With You Program

It focuses on providing tools and educational resources to parents and pedagogical teams, to continue the teaching and learning process for preschool children from home. Through this program, 7 early childhood establishments benefit.

Achievements:

  • Learning community sessions, online meetings with the educational community and the foundation.
  • Tutoring, online to encourage dialogue with program participants on family work topics.
  • Master Lecture, academic space developed for educational centers.
  • Online workshops, an instance led by a specialist in specific topics aimed at educational teams.
  • Materials delivery, learning “kit” for members of the educational community.

ViLTI SeMANN Program

The program, dependent on the Universidad Católica del Norte, ViLTI SeMANN, and supported by SQM Yodo Nutrición Vegetal, has been working with children in the early education stage since 2013, in the regions of Tarapacá and Antofagasta. The project aims to enhance skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork, using robotics and programming through a playful methodology.

Achievements

  • Development of the 2nd Educational Robotics Meeting ViLTI SeMANN.
  • 600 students from 10 establishments have benefited from this project.

Boosting Education in Northern Chile

We execute this program together with Lab4U and the VOA Foundation, with the purpose of boosting the learning and skills development of girls, boys, and adolescents, using innovative methodologies, concrete material, didactic strategies, parent and teacher support, and the creation of a learning community.

Achievements

  • More than 3,000 students from preschool to high school and more than 80 teachers and educators from schools and high schools in seven localities in the regions of Tarapacá and Antofagasta have benefited.
  • In the early years of education, the “Growing by Doing” program is implemented to enhance the learning and development of pre-reading skills in northern students.
  • The “Growing by Doing” program, in its stage from 1st to 4th grade, focuses its efforts on showing students an understanding of the world through the lens of mathematics, through experiences centered on doing and development.
  • In the first semester of 2023, the third version of the NorTEduca program was launched in the localities of Pozo Almonte, Tocopilla, and Antofagasta.

Support for Sports Organizations

In 2023 we continued to support the different sports organizations in the regions of Tarapaca and Antofagasta. We promote programs for physical activities and sorted by categories, which do meet the needs, interests and aptitudes of the people of the commune, establishing alliances with institutions in order to optimize the necessary and adequate resources sports development of Northern Chile.

Achievements:

  • 63 sports organizations received equipment, prizes for tournaments, transportation and training.
  • In alliance with the Factor de Cambio Foundation, we benefited more than 500 sportsmen and women, which made it possible for sports programs to be supported, strengthen and promoted.

E-Kart Races Ignited Engines in Pozo Almonte, Maria Elena and Tocopilla

The E-karts 2023 tour, in Northern Chile, took place in Iquique, Pozo Almonte, Tocopilla, Maria Elena, Mejillones and Antofagasta, where children and adolescents from 7 to 18 years of age were able to go around an automotive racing circuit aboard an electric vehicle, which they had to drive guided by the national racecar driver Eliseo Salazar.

“Ruta Sonrisas” Project in Huara

“Ruta Sonrisas” (“Smiles Route”) is a project that was born thanks to an agreement signed between Sonrisas Foundation, the Municipality of Huara and SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition in 2012, in order to address the lack of timely access to oral health care for children. The objective is to provide the necessary benefits to leave children with a healthy and painless smile. In addition, the project contemplates to give educational tools to each beneficiary and their families, so they can acquire oral health care and hygiene habits at home. 

Achievements:

  • In the first part of the year 2023, about 668 services have been provided in 5 educational establishments, 4 of them in Pozo Almonte and 1 in Chanavayita.
  • The coverage of the program was extended to other towns in the communes of Iquique and Pozo Almonte, such as: Chanavayita, Colonia Pintados, La Tirana, La Huayca and Pozo Almonte.

Mobile Clinic in EL Tamarugal

Together with the municipalities of Huara and Pozo Almonte and through an agreement signed with the Arturo Lopez Perez Foundation (FALP), we carried out preventive mammography procedures in the towns of Pisagua, Bajo Soga, Huara, Pozo Almonte, La Tirana and La Huayca, between January and February 2023.

Achievements:

  • A talk about prevention and early detection of breast nodules or cysts was held, as well as self-examination, which seeks to reduce the alarming figures of this cancer in Chile.
  • A total of 422 women were assisted in this mobile clinic.

Heritage Day

We have 53 years of history in the Great North of Chile, a period in which we have contributed to the enhancement of values and ancestral cultures that belong to this area, as well as the heritage riches of the saltpeter golden era.

Achievements:

  • Development of activities with the “Tin Flowers Workshop: Recuperating the Funerary Art of the Pampa”, an initiative developed jointly with the Puzzle Group, which sought to disseminate a Pampa old tradition used to worship the dead during the saltpeter era. 
  • Tocopilla’s Soccer Film Festival at GAM Cultural Center in Santiago; the discussion “Soccer as Cultural Heritage” was held with the participation of the national filmmakers Andres Wood and Grace Lazcano, as well as the sports journalist Cristian Arcos. 
  • Launching of a Short Film Festival Competition.
  • Livestream of a virtual tour of the Maria Elena and Pedro de Valdivia offices, Patrimonial Bastion of Pampa Splendor and development of a virtual workshop for pampa gastronomy.
